The Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation (CMTCA) is a not-for-profit organization that promotes continuous quality improvement in massage therapy education through accreditation. CMTCA’s rigorous standards and comprehensive accreditation process help education programs strengthen and improve the quality of the education they provide to their students.
CMTCA is pleased to announce that as part of our commitment to continuous quality improvement we will be reviewing and updating our accreditation standards. The CMTCA accreditation standards were launched five years ago, and it is time to incorporate any necessary updates and adjustments that will improve the standards.
CMTCA is seeking massage therapy education experts from across the country who are experienced with the current CMTCA accreditation standards and the Inter-Jurisdictional Practice Competencies and Performance Indicators for Massage Therapists at Entry-to-Practice. If your demonstrated skills and experience suit you for this work, then please apply to be considered.
Facilitated by CMTCA staff, the standards review process will gather information from a variety of perspectives to ensure both consensus and transparency. It is critical to note, however, that the review is not intended to recreate the standards or likewise affect the integrity of the process that was used to develop the standards.
The purpose of the first review of the CMTCA standards is to:
clarify that criteria are written clearly and can be applied consistently from one accreditation review to another
ensure that the criteria reflect changes in the profession and leading developments in the education of massage therapy students
make sure that criteria address or resolve any issues identified in the education of massage therapists
Members of the committee will:
Review the standards and input gathered from stakeholders to make recommendations for improvements
Be motivated by a desire to improve massage therapy education across Canada, and not influenced by individual, organizational, or regional interests
Be available for at least four committee meetings between July and October 2022. Additional meetings may be needed, up to Spring 2023.
The benefits of becoming a member of the Standards Review Committee are:
Learning about accreditation and massage therapy education in Canada
Sharing your ideas for best practices in massage therapy education for the benefit of the profession
Contributing to the enhancement of the profession through the accreditation process
Meeting people in your profession from across the country
For a complete description of the responsibilities, commitment, and composition of this committee; please read the Standards Review Committee Terms of Reference:
To apply to become a committee member, please complete this form and submit it with a cover letter, your curriculum vitae, and the contact information for three professional references to info@cmtca.ca.
The standards review process is a very important part of CMTCA’s commitment to inspiring excellence in massage therapy education. If you think that you would make a great committee member, then please apply before June 8, 2022.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Kathrina Loeffler
Executive Director,
Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation
